Is your child struggling?

We help your child flourish in their very own way

A specialised child psychologist can help uncover and treat the difficulties behind a child’s or adolescent’s distress. Treatment usually takes place in close collaboration with the parents — and the first step is usually parent counselling, where you receive ongoing guidance and tools to support your child, so they can unfold and develop in their own natural way.

We work with evidence-based methods and are committed to creating real change that helps your child tackle the challenges in their environment. Read more about what a child psychologist can offer (in Danish) — or find articles about psychologists’ work with children (in Danish).

How treatment begins

Getting started with the child psychologist

We usually begin with an initial parent session. From there we assess whether the focus should be on equipping you with tools, or whether the psychologist should also work directly with your child — in practice it is often a combination.

1

Parent session

The first session is with you as parents. The psychologist hears about the challenges and how you have tried to handle them — often we can already point to helpful tools at this stage, without your child needing to come in.

2

Plan

Together we decide how best to follow up: as parent counselling — the gentlest approach, and often effective with younger children — or as individual treatment for your child, with or without parents.

3

Treatment

Treatment begins with sessions — or play therapy for younger children. The family works together with the psychologist to change patterns, and collaboration with school and educators can be part of the process.

Testing and assessment

Testing, assessment and second opinion

Testing and assessment

We offer assessment, testing and written reports on your child’s abilities. For cognitive abilities we use tests such as WISC (ages 6–16) and WAIS (16+).

Second opinion

Do you already have a report or test from another provider? We offer consultation and a second opinion, so you are on solid ground before any decisions are made.

Anxiety in children and adolescents

When worries take up too much space

Children can show anxiety in many ways. Common signs include:

Excessive worry or fear

Difficulty concentrating or paying attention

Sleep problems and insomnia

Physical symptoms such as headaches or stomach aches

Isolation and avoidance of social situations

If the symptoms affect your child’s well-being, it may be a sign that your child needs professional help.

Psychoeducation about anxiety

A structured programme where children and adolescents learn about anxiety through play, reading and hands-on reflection — and gain tools to manage it. The programme is fixed and evidence-based, and new groups start regularly online and in Copenhagen and Lyngby. Read more →

Sessions and treatment

We treat anxiety with cognitive behavioural methods such as ACT, where the child learns to identify the thoughts and bodily sensations that contribute to the anxiety. With younger children the psychologist typically works through the parents; older children can have one-to-one treatment or treatment together with the family.

Family therapy

Family therapy and children with special needs

The relationships between children, parents and siblings hold many potential conflicts — arising from the natural demands parents make, or from how the child is doing in settings outside the family. Family therapy involves the relevant people from the family and, where relevant, the nursery or school. You learn to understand your child’s needs, communicate, set boundaries and manage your own reactions — and you practise the tools in therapy, so you can use them at home.

Has your child received a diagnosis or been found to have special needs? We help you understand what it means in practice and how best to support your child — at home and beyond. Among others, we advise parents of children with ADHD and autism (pages in Danish), as well as Asperger’s, anxiety, OCD and depression — see also parent counselling.

Online child psychologist

The same good results — online

Children and adolescents are often completely at home with video calls, and our experience is that we can create the same positive results online as in the clinic.

All you need is a PC, Mac or tablet with a camera and microphone. Once we have made an appointment, you will receive a link — click it, and the video connection opens in your browser. Read more about online consultations.

Encrypted connection

The connection is encrypted "end-to-end", and the software is GDPR-approved — so the conversation stays between you and the psychologist.
