What is it?
What is parent counselling?
Parenting is one of the most rewarding — and at the same time most challenging — roles. Whether you are a new parent or raising teenagers, there will be times when you feel uncertain, powerless or unsure how best to support your child.
Parent counselling is professional guidance focused on supporting you in your role as parents. You work with an experienced child psychologist — usually without the child being present. This setting makes it easier to discuss every concern openly and to learn new strategies.
Understanding and insight
Helping you understand your child’s needs and development.
Conflict resolution
Providing tools to handle conflicts and challenges within the family.
Promoting well-being
Creating a healthy and secure environment for both children and parents.
Preventing issues
Identifying and addressing potential problems before they escalate.
When does it make sense?
What parent counselling can be used for
Challenges with young children
Sleep issues, developmental concerns or difficulties setting boundaries.
Teenage conflicts
Conflicts, communication struggles or concerns about school, friends and social media.
Diagnoses and special needs
If your child has ADHD, autism or other special needs, counselling helps you understand and support them in the best possible way.
Family transitions
Divorce, blended families or the loss of a loved one can create challenges that require extra support.
Stress and burnout
If you feel overwhelmed as a parent, counselling helps you regain balance and restore your energy.
Prevention
Counselling is not only for major difficulties — it can also strengthen your awareness of your parenting approach and your relationship with your child.
How it works
Three ways of working
Couples counselling for parents
Focuses on your co-parenting and a shared understanding of the challenges. With both primary caregivers taking part, your child — and you — have the best chance of building a shared understanding and making the tools work. This is the format we recommend.
Individual sessions
One parent works with the child psychologist. Particularly useful if you have specific concerns, want to raise something personal — or if co-parenting with the other parent is strained.
Online or at the office
Online counselling is easy to fit into everyday life — you can even join from separate locations, for example during working hours. We naturally also offer counselling at the office.
What can you expect?
A process — not a quick fix
Parent counselling requires time and commitment. In return, you get a real opportunity to understand the challenges — and to explore alternative ways of handling them:
A safe and supportive environment: a space where thoughts and concerns about parenting can be shared without fear of being judged.
Practical tools: concrete strategies and techniques for everyday life with your child.
Increased self-awareness: understanding your own automatic reactions and patterns, so you can act more consciously.
A stronger relationship: through communication, boundary-setting and understanding, you build a stronger relationship with your child.
Better communication: you learn to listen — and to express yourself in a way that fosters understanding and cooperation.
Less stress: support and guidance make you more confident in your role as a parent.
Stronger family bonds: a more harmonious and nurturing atmosphere at home — and many parents find that counselling also supports their personal development.
